Compact Magazine 4

My special interest goes to Magazine themes.

Recently I did develop a child theme on the basis of Magazine Basic: Compact Magazine 4.

Magazine Basic is a super flexible, responsive magazine theme based on a grid of 12 columns and works surprisingly well on all platforms.

Compact magazine 4 is made more compact.

The post titles are moved to the right of the images;  a lot of white space is skipped and the ‘Read More’ buttons are replaced by a simple [..] link. Thus the images come really close to each other

Apart from that is has possibility of a top sidebar over spanning the first and second sidebar of Magazine Basic and a Feature Box on top of the recent posts display on Home page.

Also I created a special sidebar for pages that are not Home, like single, search and archives, and an extra widget space in Header and Footer.

The theme could be tagged as: Silver, Fixed Layout, Fluid Layout, Responsive Layout, One Column, Two Columns,Three Columns, Four Columns, Left Sidebar, Right Sidebar, Accessibility Ready, Custom Header, Custom Menu, Editor Style, Featured Image Header, Featured Images, Flexible Header, Front Page Posting, Sticky Post, Threaded Comments, Translation Ready.

You can see the theme at work on The Feature box is used for a Easy Rotator carousel display.

The theme comes with Dutch translation and  translation ready .pot file. It works fine with Magazine Basic 3.0.4 but not with later updates.

First install Magazine Basic 3.0.4 and Compact Magazine after that.

The zip files can be downloaded from here. Please write me a note if you do.

Magazine formaat

Artikel over Excerpts in plaats van Full Posts in het WP-thema Twenty Thirteen; mogelijk ook toepasbaar in andere thema’s.

WordPress Twenty Thirteen Theme Post Excerpts in Home, Category, Tag, Author and Archive Pages.

 * The adaptations template for displaying content
 * Used for both single and index/archive/search.
 * @package WordPress
 * @subpackage Twenty_Thirteen
 * @since Twenty Thirteen 1.0
<!--Magazine style: illustrated excerpts rather then full posts-->
<?php if ( is_search() || is_home() || is_category () || is_author() || is_tag() || is_archive() ) : ?>
 <div class= "excerpt">
 <?php the_post_thumbnail('thumbnail'); ?>
 <div class="entry-excerpt">
 <a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" title="<?php the_title_attribute(); ?>" ></a>
 <h2><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>">
 <?php the_title(); ?>
 <?php the_excerpt(); ?>
 </div><!-- .entry-excerpt -->
 <?php else : ?>
 <div class="entry-content">
 <?php the_content( __( 'Continue reading <span class="meta-nav">→</span>', 'twentythirteen' ) ); ?>
 <?php wp_link_pages( array( 'before' => '<div class="page-links"><span class="page-links-title">' . __( 'Pages:', 'twentythirteen' ) . '</span>', 'after' => '</div>', 'link_before' => '<span>', 'link_after' => '</span>' ) ); ?>
 </div><!-- .entry-content -->
 <?php endif; ?>
